Barack Obama: college for illegal immigrants

By John Keitel

Barack Obama’s position is that Illegal immigrants should get the same rights as U.S. citizens. I cannot go to a new state, or another country illegally, and get instate college tuition or loans. Obama will give more rights than U.S. citizens to illegal immigrants. Obama will push the Dream Act a priority, allowing the children of undocumented immigrants to attend public universities.

The federal Illegal Immigration Reform and Immigrant Responsibility Act of 1996 is clear that public colleges cannot favor illegal students. Obama will provide in-state tuition rates to illegal immigrants, this is not provided to U.S. students.

Obama will through a bone to American citizens by providing $4,000/yr for college tuition. However, we would have to REPAY THIS LOAN WITH NATIONAL SERVICE!

The DREAM Act will give legal status to illegal immigrants make them permanent residents if they meet the following criteria: must be younger than 16 when they illegally came to the United States; must be in the U.S.A. at least five years prior to the law; must be a high school graduate or GED; and of “good moral character.” After meeting the criteria and graduating college or vocational school in 6 years, or joining the military, they will be given permanent resident status.

In the Texas debate Obama restated his positions after being asked if he would stop the raids on immigrants. Obama said that immigration reform did not pass because it was being used as a “political football.” Obama said they “should crack down on employers that are taking advantage of undocumented workers.” There should be a pathway for citizenship, the American voters rejected this twice. The fees to become a citizen are to high, require a attorney, and are discriminatory. They must get in the back of the line for citizenship, but can stay in America. Finally, they should be able to cross the boarder freely.

  1. In-state tuition rates for illegals seems like a bad idea, especially when new federal rules reduces the financial aid available to Americans, making it more difficult for students to cross state lines to attend the college of their choice. Why should an American student pay more to go to a college in a different state when an illegal immigrant can get the preferential tuition rate? Does not seem fair or equitable.

  2. This is a bad idea. Not only do we have to pay more is Obama has his way we will pay our back with Nation service!

I think I will sign up for college without papers I’ll be better off. Maybe I could get the bank to loan me money for my house, or even a grant!

  3. [...] proposterous is that Obama will give illegal aliens, a group that otherwise I have no qualms with, an opportunity to pay the in state tuition rate. There are two tuition rates at American public universities: the in state rate, and the out of [...]

  4. I have $1 BILLION “qualms”/yr with them, in Colorado alone. The legal Mexicans do not like that the illegal-immigrants get more for doing criminal acts.

  5. I think that your billion dollar qualm (about how much that downed b-2 bomber costs) is more a result of the growth of the welfare state (thus incentives for aliens to come here) than the aliens themselves.

I don’t consider myself a conservative, but you have a very nice blog :)

  6. Incentives are an attraction, but stealing is stealing. The states that are effective in turning off the “incentives” have a mass exodus occurring.

I just moved from California where the schools, hospitals, and cites are over run, and going bankrupt. I contracted services to hospitals all over California that were having to close the doors on their emergency rooms, because of the illegal population, to stop their bleeding and so they could stay open.

In San Diego the illegals are bringing their children across the boarder in the morning to go to school and taking the train home at night. It is amazing that if we tried to break into a country, pick any, we would be thrown out.

Thanks for the comment, you don’t have to be a conservative to care about your country. I appreciate that you do. Ya’ all come back now ya hear!

  8. Oh! Great job!
    Very interesting and useful post.
Thx, your blog in my Google reader now
We’ll expect many new interesting posts from you ;)

  9. Thank you for reading and offering the encouragement.

  10. What part of fully refundable is hard to understand?? He says he’ll give the money yeah you’ll have to work it off but not everything in life is free… and also weren’t your great grandparents illegal too? What if they where faced against this… you probably wouldn’t be here either and trying to come back. Maybe its time to stop being selfish and do something more than whine to your country…

  11. I am not for any more Federal assistance it only gives the Universities a reason to raise their rates. I earned an education and paid with time in the service.

I find it interesting that a liberal is able to sell other liberals about service to country for education. The liberal academia is anti-American services I don’t see how the two will mix.

No illegal immigrants, a lot of legal immigrants though.

It is called patriotism and the rule of law.

  12. This is straight up BULLSHIT These illegals have more freedom than I do. Maybe I should get rid of my SS# and any info That says I’m a US citizen. Then move to mexico and try my luck at crossing the boarder Illegally then I’ll get all the money and help that I need at the taxpayers expense. The hell with obama ONLY AN IDIOT WOULD VOTE FOR HIM!!!

  13. As a legal immigrant, I’m outraged. I had to wait a long time to become a citizen but someone is going to cut through the line and enjoy tuition fees?? When I first came here to work, I didn’t even qualify to get a credit card depsite making good money; nevermind getting a govt grant.

This is outrageous. Our taxes are too high as it is and you meant to tell me that I will have to pay for undocumented people who broke the law already? You got to be kidding me !

  14. Wow! What a dumb plan. Yoy night know coming from him. What Change will he decide upon before we wake up and realize he does not know what he is doing. Illegals need to go back and come here the proper way. If we would stop all the feebee they would go back home.

  15. Illegal immigrants already get instate tuition in New Mexico and can sign up for all welfare programs.

  16. Colorado Governor Bill Ritter is refusing to enforce Colorado 2006 HB 1023. This bill requires government agency workers to check an applicants immigrations status with the federal online system called SAVE (systematic Alien Verification for Entitlements). This is a big issue for Coloradans who understand the impact this has on our states ability to provide services to its legal residents.

According to the Denver Post, February 6, 2008, approximately 500,000 illegal aliens are in Colorado. This annually costs Coloradans $564.1 million for education, $38.4 million for medical costs, and $20 million for prisons. When you add the costs of free breakfasts, lunches, lost taxes of under the table wages, unemployment to illegals, and the unemployment of Coloradans whose jobs have been taken by the illegal workforce, illegal immigration cost the taxpayers of Colorado $1 BILLION ANNUALLY. This is just the money, the illegals are also causing untold strife from drunk driving deaths, rapes, drug trafficking, and murders.

Arizona is using the SAVE system according to the law their people voted in and the illegals are fleeing so fast the MSM does stories on the exodus as hardships.

  17. All illegal immigrants should be legal. It is not right breaking up familys. Help make illegals legal!!

  18. I agree with this, however there is one error in this that would make any US Citizen dis-approve of this. The Dream act DOES NOT allow for undoccumented students to pay in-state tutition everywhere. They only pay in-state tuition for the state in where they graduated form high school. A undoccumnted student grauating from high school in one state will be elgiable to pay the in-state fee for that state and cannot choose to attend a public university in another state.

Also, there a lot of students that are undocumented but still attend college. Many have been in the US as long as other ciitizens, and for many of them being an illegal immigrant was not their choice. I work with students that were brought here as babies and have grown to love the country as their own. Many people critize these students and told them to go home of they were brought here by their parents…the thing is that this has grown to be their home. For the many people that have posted negative things about illegal immigrants and undoccumented students take a mile to walk in someone elses shoes. If you got to know just one of the people in this situation you would change your mind about the Dream Act. Most people are afraid of what they do not know.

As far as taking opportunities from US citizens that is a statement that is always thrown around by the ignorant person that wants to oppose illega immigrants from school. Many who say that all illegal immigrants should be kicked out should read this report
    http://articles.moneycentral.msn.com/CollegeAndFamily/RaiseKids/WhatIfWeThrewOutAllTheIllegalImmigrants.aspx

Illegal immigration is a reality, and people who throw aroudn ignorant statments like “Send them back to Mexico!”, “Deport illegals” and other not so nice statments should understand that thiss country has become dependent on illegal immigrants. Illegal immigration is not something new. There was an amnisty in the 80′s for the reason that illegal immigration was an issue. This is something that has been around for many, many years and so it is nothign that can be fixed in a matter of years. If americans really want this problem to be fixed they should be willing ot make a path for citizenship. If you are an american who wants this issue fixed by simply deporting all illegal immigrants then you should be ready for a rough time in the decade to follow a mass deportation.

  19. So we Americans should be thankful for non-citizens telling us citizens how our immigration policies should be.

If I was raised as an illegal immigrant in any country other than America they would not allow me to attend school let alone college. They would deport me!

The federal and state grants and instate tuition is for college students that are legal.

If citizenship is a check made prior to getting a job, healthcare, welfare, or education then there would not be illegal immigration. These funds are created by and for American citizens.

Because you disagree with the immigration laws of America does not mean that breaking them is some sort of sanctified protest!

  20. “Because you disagree with the immigration laws of America does not mean that breaking them is some sort of sanctified protest!”

You act like people that come to this country plan to protest the laws by coming here. That is not the case. If people decide to come here it is because they want a better life. Americans should be flatered that so many people want to be in this country.

Also, as far as money given out by the goverment…illegal immigrants pay taxes as well. A little known fact by U.S Citizens is that they government gives something called an ITIN. This is a Social Security type number that they give to immigrants that are in this country. The government knows about these illegal immigrants and they are given these numbers so that they pay their yearly taxes like everyone else. So, the government knows that these illegal immigrants are in this country adn yet there is nothing done. Hmm…maybe there is a reason for this.

The government is obviously not so interested in deporting people. If they wanted to depot people they would. It is very valuable for the government to keep illegal citizens in check even without giving them residency.

Become knowlegdeable about the process before you bash people that try to work their way through it.

  21. By coming here illegally is a protest against the laws by the nature of breaking the law.

Arizona seems to be loosing the illegal population pretty quickly after they started enforcing laws against employers.

Become informed of how to follow the laws, you cannot pick and choose which ones you follow.

  22. Who said that I don’t follow the laws? I am a US Citizen and I was born in the United States.

  23. I wasn’t referring to you. Just to a persons choice to follow a law and be a law abiding citizen.

  24. Despite what you and others may think there are many people that dont choose to break the law. There are many illegal immigrants that are brought over here by their parents. How was it their choice to break the law? By remaining in the United States yes, they are breaking the law, but what other choice do they have?Their family is in the US and they have made this country a home and they are being pushed away. I believe that you are right in some aspects. Many illegal immigrants do come here on their own behalf and are breaking the law but what about the children they bring here? I honestly believe that these types of illegal immigrants are very often looked over. Why should these children, teens, and young adults have to suffer for their parents not following the law? The truth is that they shouldn’t. Not all illegal immigrants are the same. Illegal immigration is not an issue that can be seen in black and white. I belive that you and others often think of immigration and immigrants with a single mind. Not all illegal immigrants send money to their native countries. Not all illegal immigrants are gang members and traffic drugs into the United States. In order to solve this countries immigration problem people need to realize that not all immigrants are the same. People (and law makers) need to recognize that there is not ant ONE single law that can be passed to solve this issue. illegal immigration needs to be understood and people that see in in black and white do nothing to help put good lawmakers in office. Don’t get me wrong. I don’t want people to come into this country for bad reasons. Most illegal immigrants dont want that either. No one wants anyone invading their home to be malicious, and that includes illegal immigrants. They too have grown to call this country their home and all they want is to make a better life for themselves and for their family.

  25. If a person is legal and commits a crime like drug dealing and they have children then the children are more than likely going to be separated from the family.

If the parents commit an illegal act then the children unfortunately pay for it also.

Illegal children are a burden to the education system of the legal Americans. That is not fair to the children of legal Americans. Anchor babies need to stop now.

  26. The example that you chose does not compare. You went to the extreme to try and prove a point. Of course if a legal parent deals drugs the child should be taken away. However, these children will be taken away from a house…not a home. There is a diference between a house and a home. A home is not just a roof over a childs head. A home is a plae that they feel safe. A home can be a house, or it can be a place where they feel love, where they have friends. The United States becomes a home for children that are brought here illgally. They dont know their native countries, and if they do know their native countries then it makes them appreceaite the US that much more.

How are illegal children a burden to the education system? Is it because they challege legal americans? In the school where I work there is a large number of hispanic students and there a few children that are illegal immigrants. These illegal immigrants do better in school than their legal hispanic counterparts. Should we send these legal hispanics back to their native countries? How are they not a burden? The same is for any race. It is a parents job to make sure that their children do well in school. Sure, a school has to challenge a student and allow a student to grow, but a parent plays a very pivital role in the childs education.

I reccently held a discussion with a group of high school students and the thing that many of them agreed on was they did not like the idea of illegal immigrants going to college because of the competition. They didnt cae that they were illegal aand in the United States. I asked them if a college should report an illegal immigrant who apply or attends their institution and they said no. They said they did not care that they were in the US, rather only that they were apply for college. The thing with many of these students…the ones that were brought into this country illgally by their paretns…is that they are competition for legal US students. If you ask me it is a good thing. US students need something extra to push themselves in order to ensure college acceptance. The fact that legal US students have added competition is a very good thing.

Also, the parents of the illegal immigrants, or “Ancor babies” as you put it, also pay taxes.

  27. A home is where values and the rule of LAW is followed. Teaching children that illegal activities is not alright. If you think the school is more challenged by these student then why are our graduation percentages below 50% in 11 major cities?

If you really want to bring immigrants into the US then they should have to learn english only in the schools or else employment or higher education is not obtainable.

My family is Mexican and they do not like the fact of anyone coming here without doing it according to the law!

A lot of illegals get paid in cash and you know this. Or maybe your not a business owner and do not understand the savings is not having to pay an employees FICA, workers compensation and health insurance!

The ones that are paying taxes are breaking the law again by taking someone’s Social Security Number! They can have your SSN if you don’t mind the credit problems….

  28. “The ones that are paying taxes are breaking the law again by taking someone’s Social Security Number! They can have your SSN if you don’t mind the credit problems….”

This is where you are wrong. Those paying taxes do so using an ITIN number. It is a 9 digit number that the government assigns an illegal immigrant. The government knows that they are illegal, yet they give them the number in order to collet tax revenue from them. The government is well aware that these immigrants are making money (through whatever means) and so when they report it the government then going in and does what they would do in the tax process with any legal american.

Also, who said that illegal immigrants are not leaning english and studying in english? I don not know of any school that allows for their students to take state tests in a language other than english. Do you?

Also, even if you took all illegal immigrants out of schools drop out rates would still be high. I will tell you thought that a main factor in why an illegal immigrant student will not finnish scholl is because they see no point. They see no hope. The students that i have worked with have ith been denied a path to leagal citizenship, or are still waiting (some have been waiting 10 plus years…which tells you the process that is becoming a legal citizen) to legalize their status. These students feel that graduating from high school will bring them nothing beacause they will not be able to afford the financial burden that is a post secondary education.

“A home is where values and the rule of LAW is followed. ”

You are right. A home is where values are taught. Then, the idea of law simply goes back to my point before that the parents mad a mistake…not the children. Your entire basis is that the children shoudl suffer for something that their parents did. You must remeber thought that the DREAM Act is not simply giving citizenship to jusy ANYONE. It is giving it to those who have been here for a certain ammount of time, who have either finished an undergraduate degree or gone and served in the military. Also, not ever drug dealing immigrant that whishes to benefit from this Act will. If you have a 17 year old juvenile dilinquient who has been convicted of crimes and all of a sudden decides to change his ways because this Act if passed it does not mean that he will benefit. Those benefiting under the DREAM Act must be of “good moral character”.

    Also…
“A lot of illegals get paid in cash and you know this. Or maybe your not a business owner and do not understand the savings is not having to pay an employees FICA, workers compensation and health insurance!”

“My family is Mexican and they do not like the fact of anyone coming here without doing it according to the law!”

I didnt say that I was welcoming in illegal immigrants into this country. I am simply defending those that did not come here of theri own free will. I know that you will probably say then that their parents should be responsible for causing their children to feel isolated and out of place in their (now) home land, however, the thing is that though these illegal immigrant children are feeling out of place and unwanted they are truly in a better situation then what they might have to be exposed to. Also, what does your family being Mexican have to do with anything? That statement put me in shock. This is a very stereotypical statement that all illegal immigrants are from Mexico, and if you are indeed a part of a Mexican family thatn you should be ashamed that you have put that label on your family. I work with many (legal) hispanic teenageers who often talk to me about how they feel like the issue of illegal immigration has taken a turn for the worse. These teens feel as if they are also being targeted many times due to their race. A statement like the one you made makes me understand where these kids are coming from and what they are tryign to say. If you are a member of a Mexican family then you and your family should be supporting these people (a mojority of which are hispanic) and stand together so that the issue of illegal immigration does not become a racial issue ( which is what I fear is fast approaching).

This is an argument as to how illegal immigrants are taken advantage of due to their lack of legal status.

  29. You really expect us to believe that people doing something illegal are going to sign up with the Government.

If some do it is to get benefits that are being handed out by the Government against Americans will.

Why do you think immigrants entering a country illegally should get special treatment above other criminals?

It took me about 15 seconds to find this with the Google question, “schools give tests in spanish.”

“Chula Vista Elementary, San Ysidro and Sweetwater Union High school districts have joined six others suing the state to stop English-only testing. They are asking for the option to give the test in Spanish to students such as Leslie, just as at least three other states allow.” at; http://www.signonsandiego.com/news/education/20071001-9999-1n1english.html

Nevada allows the GED test to be taken in Spanish! Is it possible to take the test in a language besides English?

Yes. There are seven different versions of the test. The Spanish version of the test is offered at many of the sites in Nevada. Call your local test site or the Adult Education Office (775-687-7294) to learn where alternate versions of the test are offered.

    STAR
2008 Standardized Testing and Reporting (STAR) Program

Parent/Guardian Guide to the Designated Primary Language Test (DPLT)

The tests in the Standardized Testing and Reporting (STAR) Program are given each spring to all students in grades two through eleven in California’s public schools to measure their academic achievement. The designated primary language test (DPLT) provides an opportunity for Spanish-speaking English learners to demonstrate what they know and can do on a test in their primary language.

You get the point, but if you don’t understand this. Immigrants throughout our history have had to learn English in order to be a citizen. This is beneficial to the Immigrant so they can survive in an country that does business in English.

This answers your rant, “I will tell you thought that a main factor in why an illegal immigrant student will not finnish scholl is because they see no point. They see no hope. The students that i have worked with have ith been denied a path to leagal citizenship, or are still waiting (some have been waiting 10 plus years…which tells you the process that is becoming a legal citizen) to legalize their status. These students feel that graduating from high school will bring them nothing beacause they will not be able to afford the financial burden that is a post secondary education.”

Saying that my family should support Illegal immigrants because of their race is racist. They don’t like the labels like Hispanic, latino, Cholo.

Don’t tell the American people that they are racist because they do not support criminal invasion of THEIR COUNTRY!

  30. “You really expect us to believe that people doing something illegal are going to sign up with the Government.”

    I do….because it is true.

“If some do it is to get benefits that are being handed out by the Government against Americans will.”

All that can be done with this number is use it for tax purposes. These numbers all start with a 9 and so the government know when it is being used for a purpose that is other than for tax purposes.

I was not aware that schools allowed testing in spanish.

If your family doesn’t like the labels then you would not have pointed out that your family is Mexican.

I never said that the american people are racist for not wanting illegal immigrants. What i was talking about was a deeper and more complex issue which is something that you are obviously not wanting to understand. This issue about racisim has nothing to do with the illegal immigrants themselves….rather the race that many stereotype with illegal immigration and how it affects those who fit into that those race categories.

“Don’t tell the American people that they are racist because they do not support criminal invasion of THEIR COUNTRY!”

It is statements like these that make leave a possibility for racisim. Illegal immigration is not a race issue. I am an american..and i am not helping getting people across the border. However, i still believe that we must do somehting about the people that are already here. You said that your family doesn’t liek labels liek hispanic or latino and why is this? Is this becaause they feel it is a label with illegal immigration? If it is that then you have just proven my point. Labels like hipanic or latino is nothing negative…rather it is their background and where they come from. Being an American isn’t about forgetting who you are and the culture from which you came.

  31. You don not get the idea of becoming an American. Country, language, boarders.

My family is proud of being Americans.

If the ILLEGALS were not here ILLEGALLY then there would not be a problem.

The labels are not correct; Latino’s are from Latin America, Mexicans are from Mexico. Cholo’s are gang members.

30% of inmates in prison are illegals and should be deported. Then stop anchor babies, NO OTHER COUNTRY GETS THIS RIGHT ANYWHERE, and then stop handing out tax dollars in benefits and the magnet would be turned off.

Becoming American requires assimilation. No assimilation breads a group that cannot survive.

  32. The labels are not correct; Latino’s are from Latin America, Mexicans are from Mexico. Cholo’s are gang members.

If the labels are not correct then why would you use it? Why would americans everywhere use them?

America is not the United States. America is consitent of North, South and Central America.

Don’t try to give me a geogrphy lesson simply because you and your family have been so influenced by other peoples stereotypical (or sometimes racist) view, thus making you forget the cultures where you came from.

Also, Latin America is NOT a geographical region. Latin America refers to a reigion in the Americas (North, South, or Central) where a language derived from Latin is spoken; such as Spanish or Portugesue.

“Latin America (Spanish: América Latina or Latinoamérica; Portuguese: América Latina; French: Amérique latine) is the region of the Americas where Romance languages, those derived from Latin, and in particular Spanish and Portuguese, are primarily spoken.”

I can do searches on the Internet too.

  33. So then using Latino’s/Latina’s could be from europe and to use such a broad term is Not correct.

My family and I do not use these terms. I do not believe in any hyphinated labels. German-American, Irish-American, Italian-American, Mexican-American, or any other stupid label.

That in no way means that I forget my German, Irish, Cuban, or Hillbilly cultures. They are part of what I am.

Immigrants of American history worked to be considered AMERICAN. Most had to work much harder than walking across a boarder. Assimilation. The Democrat Party started these liberal labels to create strife in the capitalist system.

Drop the racist bullshit! I countered your arguments, you ignore the facts and continue to be blind.

  34. Why should illegal immigrants get in-state tuition when a real citizen cannot?

  35. “Why should illegal immigrants get in-state tuition when a real citizen cannot?”

You need to stick to the factsas well.

A citizen can get in state tuition in the state from which they either live or graduated from school.

An illegal immigrant will only be able to get in-state tuition from the school where they graduated from high school. If an illegal immigrant graduates from a school in Ohio then they will only get in state tuition in Ohio and not in every state. This would be the same as a citizen.

I dont ignore the facts and i am not blind. I feel like you are being more blind by saying that racisim isnt an underlying truth with this issue.

“So then using Latino’s/Latina’s could be from europe and to use such a broad term is Not correct.”

I dont understand what you are trying to say with this statement.

  36. Wrong, your talking about what Obama’s plan is. I am talking about what is happening now. What your trying to say is that Obama will roll back illegal immigrant “rights.”

There is always a minor percentage of underlying racism. The overwhelming percentage of Americans are tired of paying for people that came here illegally.

Colorado looses $1Billion a year. That is in now way fair to the legal tax paying Citizens. California is worse. Arizona cut the benefits off by making businesses check the SAVE data base.

    Read; http://digitalartpress.wordpress.com/2008/02/24/governor-ritter-refuses-to-inforce-colorados-illegal-immigration-law/

The terms are broad and do not identify the various countries of origin. Latin is part of many languages around the world. Is Puerto Rico considered Latina to you? Spain? Cuba? Italy?

  37. “Wrong, your talking about what Obama’s plan is. I am talking about what is happening now. What your trying to say is that Obama will roll back illegal immigrant “rights.”

Of course I am talkign abotu the Obama plan. And well the DREAM Act has actually been around since the early 2000′s and I am talking about this plan becauae that is what this post was about.

  38. The Dream Act has been killed in congress by the upheaval of the American voters.

Why should Americans give illegal people better right than its own CITIZENS?

  39. That is the thing. They are not giving illegal people better rights than citizens.

Please do tell me where this Act will give illegals more (or better) rights than Citizens…and do it with truth and facts.

  40. Why should Americans give illegal people better right than its own CITIZENS?

That is the thing. They are not giving illegal people better rights than citizens.

Please do tell me where this Act will give illegals more (or better) rights than Citizens…and do it with truth and facts.

  41. ….not personal opinions and emotions.

  42. yo sugar nipps,

I like your sense of humor even though these
aren’t funny times. True Americans will set the
tone on these frikkin pandering opportunists.

2008 Politicians = business as usual

  43. Illegal aliens get free healthcare. Free births with citizenship anchors. Free education. Free Welfare. Free food stamps, and In-state tuition rates.

What country can I break into illegally and get this treatment?

  44. norway, spain, finland,

And “Illegals” only get in state tuition in states like california where they have passed laws of that nature. That is not the same in every state. I hate that you are un-informed about some of the things that you talk about.

If you are not 100% sure then don’t say anything. You dont have to say something about everything. We have a civic duty as citizens to vote…but also to be informed. We shoudl not be talking about things that we are not certain about. ust because you are passionate about an issue as you clearly are, does not mean that you know anythiing, or everything about it.

  45. I agree with u 100% Jman. My husband(who is now a citizen because of me)never did any harm on coming here illegally because his mom brought him here when he was a baby. I gave him citizenship and he has a clean record and did no harm to America. My mom in law just wanted to give him a better life.So I dont know whats digitalartpress’s problems. He says all this like as if all illegals are criminals and I take that as discrimination. So just to let u know, that road u drive on, and sidewalk u walk on, were with the money their taxes. INCLUDING, the hard working illegals who came here to work hard and have a better life. Because remember, u are originally an immigrant too. If you ancestors didnt come here illegally,u wouldnt of been a citizen. So good job Jman! They are all just human beings like us(just born on a different piece of land). No biggie. Criminal immigrants are a different story. But dont say crap like as if they are all the same. For u to be legal here, your family from back then came here illegal too.So u are one too.Only ones who arent are the first ones(native americans).

  46. Exactly. I agree with u Isajhnsn. Plus, if they were to ship all illegal immigrants back to where they belong…I don’t think us,U.S. Citizens, would wanna be picking tomatoes out when we got better opportunities since we are from here. Or would u like to?!

  47. Thank you both! And Dale, I completely agree. I don’t like it when people ignorantly say that Illegals take jobs from Americans. Yes, they do, but it is those that Americans do not want to do. I don’t know any one that grows up saying that their dream job is to work at McDonald’s, or that they want to grow up to work picking strawberries.

  48. I know this is a country of immigrants. I have relatives that have come legally and illegally.

You didn’t know that construction and resorts are areas illegals obtain the most jobs. Jobs US citizens used to do. And still want to do.

Illegals use other peoples SSN’s. They drive illegally so when they hit or kill someone they just get deported and the legal citizen suffers.

There are laws that have reasons behind them. Illegal immigration is a great way to introduce disease to a society that has eradicated it already. Or maybe keep a child rapist out.

Little things like that are what you say are small concerns. And the LEGAL citizens should just ignore the people that break the law. Insane!

  49. Only 25% of the field workers are illegal. That makes 75% of the field workers American!

The Americans will do the jobs you believe they will not do.

  50. You’re on the wrong page because u are only talking about the criminal immigrants. But like we said..ur pretty much an immigrant too.

  51. I know huh? Digitalartpress person whoever u are, I can tell u are an insecure person because you think too negative. Yes, I can understand the criminal immigrants but what about the ones who arent. Some immigrants who were illegal before are now surgeons or drs or police officers. And by the way, have u been out there in the real world. Take a closer sniff and look because there is way more than 25% of field workers who are illegal. I mean, come on, why would we be working there if they dont pay u as much as careers for citizens. And you are just embarrassing yourself because you are making yourself look retarted because you are basically an immigrant too

  52. I have many relatives that have waited up to 20 years to come here legally. They don’t think twice about doing it right.

Mexico is the NUMBER TWO supplier of oil to America. Why don’t you hold them accountable for the oppressive government that takes your money. Canada is the number one supplier.

Mexico supplies more oil to America than the middle east, our number three supplier.

Quit playing the victim with the United States of America.

  53. Lol, now u go to oil. When not everyone is the same. I will just say u are a U.S citizens thats a criminal just like all the other criminals who are from here too.

  54. You know..its funny. You get deported back cause u are not legal. But after you fix your documents and become a us citizen, u can stay. Just over some sheet of papers, lmao

  55. I think it is very funny that you bring up Oil and the Mexican Government. Do you know that the Mexican Government doesn’t own the oil? Just an fyi.

Before you start going crazy and saying that there aren’t reasons for immigrants to come here.

Also, you act as if the life of an immigrant is just sitting back enjoying the luxuries of America. That is NOT the case. It’s sad that they have to go through so much, but would still rather stay here and endure the hardships. That says a lot about the hardships that they must endure in their own country.

  56. I attempt Holy Cross College in Notre Dame Indiana..and i don’t have any papers, i believe i have dreams and i want to be somebody, I’m Hispanic from Honduras..I love this country and i want live my life here..white people are really disrespectful talking about how Hispanics don’t belong here, for your information this country without Hispanic wouldn’t have been so powerful because we pretty much do everything that is hard and easy…people below please respect because we come to this country to change and help others and not be to be so discriminator..

  57. Being against people that break the law, take our jobs, lower the base salary, and take our money in the form of benefits is exactly what Americans should be against. That is not racism. it is enforcing the laws meant to protect Americans.

  58. The Mexican Government gets the taxes for the oil that some other company labors for. Mexican immigrants are not the only illegals here. Why should the hardships of people that break the law be of any concern to Americans?

  59. Illeal immigrants students are obviously trying to get better in life. they are not criminals. I think students should be legalized!!!!!!!!!!!

  60. Then you pay for them. There are people that have been waiting and paying thousands to be legal citizens that come first and foremost!

  61. I would first like to say that it’s such a shame that after slavery and prejudice there’s still so many people out in this country that are so little minded. I for one would like everyone to first take a second and try placing yourself in an illegal students life. It’s difficult to even have a job because you don’t have a SS#, then when you do register for college you can never fill in a SS#, you have to pay for tuition up front. Now tuition depending on where you go is pretty expensive. So now I ask how in the world would it be easier for illegal students to go to school as any other legal student? You also face a difficult task of being able to show a state i.d. It’s not the illegal students fault that they where brought to this country by their parents in a better hope of a brighter future. I know plenty of legal people who are in their early 20′s and ended up nowhere…they ended up at a beat down job, no college education, no goals in life, no bright future. I also know illegal people who are striving for a better life, better education, and a better career. This is a shame for all of you that have the opportunity to strive in life and yet don’t take advantage of the great education one can receive in this country. Now I don’t fully agree with the proposal of the president, but I would like some sort of amnesty passed so that the illegal students here can become residents and hopefully citizens. Inorder for them to have that freedom in this country and attend college. So that they may graduate with a degree and have just as a sucessful path as the person next to them

  62. I admire your desire to better yourself for a better future. However, it is not our fault your parents decided to undertake an illegal act and put you in a bad situation. Amnesty was tried in the 80′s and failed to achieve the desired effect, which was to push the reset button and hope that people then begin to follow the law.

How would you explain to the people that are in line to be legal citizens, the right way, that you should have special treatment because your parents illegally entered this country? You should be mad at your parents not Americans who believe in the rule of law!

  63. I AM a US CITIZEN…born here, raised here. I say its all a bunch of crap! I work everyday… the government takes out taxes, I have to fill out a financial aide form & show my S.S Number before I can get any help..IF I CAN EVEN GET THAT. And now the government wants to take my tax money & pay for ILLEGALS to go to college when they broke a law by comming over here. Which part of that is right?

  64. Very nice write up. Easy to understand and straight to the point.

  65. In Laredo Texas our schools are full of illegal immigrants. By law, we can not deny them an education as long as they provide an address in the U.S. Our schools are overcrowded, and our taxes keep rising. No one has ever done anything about it. Our children do not qualify for pre-kinder because they speak English. Now, does that make sense????
The public schools receive money for all limited english speaking students (lots of it) so do you really think they are going to enforce checking up on addresses?
Not only do illegal immigrants get free education, but also free medical services, food stamps, and now a possible free college education. What next ? How are we going to keep up paying for their education, medical services, and much more?

  66. Hi, possibly this posting may be off topic but anyways, I have gone browsing about your site and it appears extremely neat. It is obvious that you know the topic and you seem fervent about it. I’m building a fresh website plus I am attempting to make it look great, and provide quality subject matter. Having gleaned a good deal from your website in addition to I anticipate additional articles and will be back soon. Thanks you.

  67. Ok so you have made a point. You work hard and you pay your taxes. I am a US citizen and not by birth. I appreciate the opportunities that I am offered here. While I do not agree with providing financial aid to illegals, I dont see the big deal with in-state tuition fees. Its should be ok once its proven that the illegal has been residing in the schools state for quite some time–2-3 yrs or more. However let me remind you this nation is a nation founded on immigration. They have always been the cornerstone of America. Our forefathers were all immigrants who outsmarted the Native Americans and where are they (A generation lost.) Your so-called blog is masked by eloquent words which is deep seethed in xenophobia. In earlier posts you tried to use illegals as scapegoats for many of Americas societal ills i.e. quote

“Teaching children that illegal activities is not alright. If you think the school is more challenged by these student then why are our graduation percentages below 50% in 11 major cities?”

So by reading this, I have to assume your reference to “these” means ILLEGALS. How could take you seriously when you are making such generalizations?

Are illegal immigrants responsible for influencing or forcing our American children into taking drugs?

Are they responsible for you not being able to control your kids?

Are they responsible for the failing grades of American students who are receiving financial aid semester after semester before the school finally decides to kick them out?

This to me is a waste of taxpayers money and this should be an outrage to us.

You want to play victim here but did you know that America exports their garbage to other countries. Wouldnt you say that is a travesty?
    http://www.mnn.com/transportation/shipping/stories/exporting-garbage.

Not to mention their are existing American companies that go into other countries backyards to commit act they couldnt get away with here. Even major companies do it all the time Nike and others. They take advantage of cheap labor to maximize profits to satisfy our insatiable appetites. Other companies pollute and use up third world countries resources. Should it matter? I think not since its not happening here in America.

I guess what matters are the illegals here will corupt us all, steal our jobs, infest our streets with crime!!!

  68. The USA is made of immigrants. guess what? All the countries in America are made of immigrants as well. i know, just like everybody, that out of all immigrant countries in America; the USA is the best place to live. Why do they say?: The USA is a country of immigrants and everybody should be allowed to stay, regardless of their legal status, just as long as their here.
What ever is happening to us is happening for a reason. There is nothing happening to us that is not suppose to be. That does not mean that we are not going to fight like hell to get out of what ever mess we’r in.

  69. America is a country and there are not any other countries within the USA, only states. As a country we have historically allowed immigrants to become citizens. However they have always had to have a skill to offer and they have always been a limited amount of immigration so that the citizens that are her are able to work and provide for themselves and their families without a dilution of wages and job availability.
