Governor Ritter refuses to inforce Colorado’s illegal immigration law

By: John Keitel

Colorado Governor Bill Ritter is refusing to enforce Colorado 2006 HB 1023. This bill requires government agency workers to check an applicants immigrations status with the federal online system called SAVE (systematic Alien Verification for Entitlements). This is a big issue for Coloradans who understand the impact this has on our states ability to provide services to its legal residents.

According to the Denver Post, February 6, 2008, approximately 500,000 illegal aliens are in Colorado. This annually costs Coloradans $564.1 million for education, $38.4 million for medical costs, and $20 million for prisons. When you add the costs of free breakfasts, lunches, lost taxes of under the table wages, unemployment to illegals, and the unemployment of Coloradans whose jobs have been taken by the illegal workforce, illegal immigration cost the taxpayers of Colorado $1 BILLION ANNUALLY. This is just the money, the illegals are also causing untold strife from drunk driving deaths, rapes, drug trafficking, and murders.

Colorado Springs, a city of less that 500,000 has an average of 100 illegal aliens in its jail system each day. Each prisoner costs Colorado Springs about $52.00/day, which at an average of 100 prisoners/day costs $156,000/month, and $1,872,000 annually. The Colorado Springs police helicopter coverage was recently in jeopardy of being cut completely. The service was saved by cutting 1100 flying hours, saving $130,000, making the cost $359,700 annually. This leaves the city vulnerable to crime as each helicopter provides the coverage of 10 ground units. This shows that Colorado Springs must pay for the care of illegal immigrants but cut the police force, outrageous!

HB 1023 was passed in 2006 to require Colorado assistance agencies to make applicant provide proof of citizenship when applying for assistance. Some of the programs affected are: In-state college tuition, Federal and state financial aid for colleges, College Opportunity Fund (state-funded college tuition stipends), Medicaid,• Unemployment benefits,• Colorado Workforce Centers (help people find a job or get job training), Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (formerly known as welfare), Restaurant and liquor licenses, Business licenses Foster care and child care licenses, Low income energy assistance (LEAP) any individual or sole proprietor who gets a state contract approved by the Department of Personnel and Administration, Old Age Pension – State Medical Program CHP plus (basic health plan that will apply only to children over 18 and pregnant women), Colorado Indigent Care Program (hospitals and clinics that get state money), will be required to go through the new Federal ID verification process, SAVE.

Governor Ritter refuses to enforce this law stating empty reasons such as it would cost more to enforce the law than the state spends on illegal immigrants. If this is true why are states like Arizona, Georgia, and Oklahoma enforcing theirs with excellent results. The results are a mass exodus of illegal immigrants from there states, saving their residents millions. Instead Governor Ritter would rather unjustly prosecute whistle blower ICE agent Cory Voorhis for exposing his actions to block enforcement then as DA and now as Colorado’s Governor. Voorhis provided public information requested by Congressman Bob Beauprez, then running against Ritter for the governorship. The information exposed then Denver DA Bill Ritter’s plea deals with illegal immigrants that gave lessor sentences, “agricultural trespass”, which allowed criminals to duck deportation and remain in the United States. One such criminal is heroin dealer Walter Ramos who pleaded guilty to the lessor charge of “agricultural trespass” allowing him to remain in the US. Ramos was rearrested in California for “sexual contact with a minor.”

This case is in trial at this time and costing Voorhis more than $50,000 in defense cost on a trumped up charge. Title 5 U.S.C. Section 7211 reads, “The right of employees, individually or collectively, to petition Congress or a Member of Congress, or to furnish information to either House of Congress, or to a committee or Member thereof, may not be interfered with or denied.” Governor Ritter is ignoring this law and HB 1023 that he gave an oath to uphold. It is time for Governor Ritter to be recalled!

  1. The Cory Voorhis case is like an octopus, it goes in many directions but what it all boils down to is that he’s being rail-roaded by those in power who have connections. Governor Ritter’s Ag-trespass plea-bargain gimmick is what should be being discussed nationally and in our courtrooms.

Next to jailed Border Patrol Agents Ramos and Compean, the attempted prosecution of Cory Voorhis is the greatest miscarriage of justice we have ever seen.

Cory Voorhis is the kind of guy you would want in the foxhole with you. Cory is an example of the kind of ICE Agent we want and need to protect us from the illegal alien invasion. ICE Agent Voorhis is a veteran who served his country in Desert Storm, he served with the U.S. Border Patrol, and he has been a career ICE Agent for the past 13 years. ICE Agent Voorhis has served his country honorably and bravely, and he has compiled an outstanding record.

  3. Well stated! The liberals are trying every direction they can to legalize criminal immigrants. They try to ignore law and destroy those who care enough about this country to protect it. If Lincoln was President he would jail Governor Ritter for treason and protect the good people of this Nation like Cory Voorhis, and boarder agents Ramos and Compean.
I will gladly and a link to your site and do what I can to get the word out.

Power Corrupts – Absolute Power Corrupts Absolutely.

The process, step-by-step, in a state in the fragile USA Republic – from an appropriate position of “protect and serve” – to an unlawful position of collusion-and-corruption as usual business – is stealthy and easily obfuscated.

The goal is rampant multiculturalism, at any cost – Here we have a case of liberals who are so enamored with their ‘progressive’ beliefs that things happen – rules get bent, then laws get bent, then rampant aiding-and-abetting becomes commonplace. The problem is – guess who benefits, who pays, and who does the perpetrating ?

Beneficiaries; The criminals who employ the illegal aliens are the primary beneficiaries.

The “U.S. Illegal Alien Cohort” is now 52 million, to include 41 million adults, 4 million kids, and 7 million “instant-citizens.” 40 million of these folks are fully employed in the USA – ILLEGALLY – paid an average wage of $43,000, according to Paul Harvey. Meanwhile tens of millions of U.S. citizens are unemployed as the nation slides from recession to depression.

The “Colorado Illegal Alien Cohort” is now 960,000 – as Colorado’s total population edges toward 6 million. Why, gentle reader, are these numbers so high ? Does favoritism by the D A play a role ?

Perpetrators; One of the key reasons falls at the feet of Colorado’s Governor, Bill Ritter. As District Attorney for the City and County of Denver, Ritter applied his open-borders pro-immigrant beliefs to the limit – extending incredible red-carpet treatment to tens of thousands of illegal aliens who ran afoul of our laws. Fully aware that the “immigrants” (in our laws, an immigrant is a LEGAL alien) are subject to deportation, Ritter and his henchmen made certain that no alien or family member appeared before a judge with risk of felony conviction – even though the folks were guilty as sin of the felony counts. Think about it – It is foolish to grant bail-bond and plea-bargains to aliens unlawfully present – obvious flight-risks. And yet, Ritter did that – and much more.

Time and time again, foreign nationals received preferential treatment – while, at the same time, U.S. citizens were summarily hammered for the same criminal behaviors. What’s wrong with this picture ?

The bottom-line is this – hordes of illegal aliens have come to the state of Colorado. With “how-to-get-the-most-benefits” training from civil-servants and NFP-NGO workers and volunteers, the “poor, pitiful immigrants” are the beneficiaries of extensive “fringe-benefits” as well. Guess who is paying those costs ? You are.

Close your eyes and imagine – how the dedicated federal law-enforcement agents feel when they do their jobs, apprehend criminal-aliens and errant employers – only to have Bill Ritter stand on his head to find a way to put the criminal-aliens back on the street. Try to imagine how painful that was for the federal agents. These dedicated federal agents take their oath of office standing next to the beloved flag of the USA, just as does the staff of the Denver District Attorney team.

How do their goals get juxtaposed ?

  5. Governor Bill Ritter is doing on the state level what President Bush is doing at the national level……refusing to enforce our laws that deal with labor and immigration.

  6. The Governor is absolutely guilty of aiding and abetting illegal immigration. He did this as the Denver DA and now as Governor. He and the Salazar’s are happy with what they are doing. They are getting away with it so far, but only until enough noise is made. I think there are still enough conservatives left in Colorado to vote him out. And if enough people realize that it is costing this state 1 BILLION a year a recall will take place. I was a the ground level when we recalled California’s Governor Davis, they said that couldn’t be done!

  7. Wow, another ebabler of illegality despite how negatively illegal immigration is affecting Colorado. Are you people perhaps not listening closely enough when clowns like Ritter give their campaign speeches? Are you sure their not saying,”If elected I swear to ignore the citizenry , but will do my duty required by my corporate masters–Americans be damned?.

  8. In Arizona, citizens unanimously voted to require proof of citizenship for ALL state benefits. Arizona’s Governor, Napolitano— was also refusing to enforce the laws. The citizens and numerous anti-illegal people/groups took the governor to court, and won!!!!! This is definitely what the citizens of Colorado need to do!!! They also need to make sure that ALL politicians who refuse to enforce the laws against illegals are NOT reelected!!!

  9. The case of Cory Voorhis and the total unconcern shown by Democratic Liberal politicos makes me wonder if Americans understand something? We know the Neocon Republicans are corrupt to the core, but by ignoring their utter lawessness the Democratic Party, under Pelosi and Reid, are proving that they are quite willing to sell Americans into Corporate, facist, dictatorship. It’s unbelievable .

  10. You good folks in Colorado need to put the fear of the public citizenry into your governor.

It is NOT up to him to decide what laws to enact or enforce. Insist on the rule of law, which means border enforcement and interior immigration enforcement because otherwise, half of the chronically corrupt Mexico will be in your fair state before much longer. Mexico feels it is their right to trespass, please teach them otherwise.

  11. Thank you, Bobby, Brenda, and Nessus, all great statements! I was part of the movement, gathering some of the first 200,000 signatures that led to California’s Governor Grey Davis being recalled. It is hard and they said it could never happen but it did. I do feel there is enough Coloradans mad about this to do something similar.

I grew up in Arizona and it saddens me to see what is happening to that fine state. I still have many relatives there that have to deal with this. I was very happy to see the law requiring proof of citizenship to get benefits.

We passed as similar law here in 2006 and now the Governor is testing the will of the people. I will find out if a there are any cases going to court yet.

    Thank you for your support!

  12. You are right about Voorhis, Compean, and Ramos are being ignored by the powers that can help. They may be planning a large scale pardon list at the end of this term, the same way Bill Clinton did in the last hour. Except these are the good guys that need help.
Corporations are not fascist they are the backbone of free democracies. Corporations. are generally, 80% small companies, I know I had one for many years and helped many sick patients and employed many nurses at the same time. If you really believe corporations are bad what is the alternative? Nationalizing? Then you have Hugo Chavez.

  13. Colorado residents are being snow-jobbed by yet another globalist, open-border, free marketeer zealot. These traitors are all around us and are pandering to big business and the pro-illegal immigration organizations. Make your hired-help in Denver and around the state co-author “THE SAVE ACT” It’s not perfect, but its a better solution to the 12 to 20 million illegal aliens squatting in this nation. This would be Federal law, so it would be in effect nationwide.

Rep. Heath Shuler’s (D-N.C.) SAVE Act now has 144 bipartisan signers in the House and Senate. The SAVE Act will require all employers to use the electronic verification system to keep illegal aliens out of U.S. jobs.

The number of jobless Americans without a high school degree increased by 2 million between 2000 and 2005. During that same time, Congress imported 1.5 million immigrants without high school degrees. Not surprisingly, wages for these immigrants and native-born workers without a high school degree have plummeted. The cheap labor lobbies may want to do away with immigration law, but they can never rescind the law of supply and demand.

NumbersUSA believes that this legislation is just the vehicle to give us a chance to actually pass immigration legislation through a Democratic-controlled Congress that could significantly improve the lives of most Americans. “It’s the one [immigration] bill that will pass this Congress,” said Congressional Immigration Reform Caucus Chairman Brian Bilbray (R-Calif.) in an interview with The Hill. “We have to make this about illegal employment and crack down on employers.”

  14. If corporations are allowed to completely control the United States, unfettered by andy social responsibilities, then what is the United States? Nothing more than an economic zone? In that case, this whole discusiion involving illegal immigration and the subsequent problems it brings, one being job depression , is a moot point and we can all go to Starbucks and relax. What we are then saying is we want a nation where a situation of this type exists,” I’ll do the job for twenty dollars, “no over here, I’ll do it for ten”"hold on, over here, I’ll do it for five” etc. and on and on with the subsequent corruption that third world nations without a middle class have. There is not one redeeming feature about either massive LEGAL IMMIGRATION, let alone unassimilated millions who come ILLEGALLY. I have thought about it, looked around for examples, but can’t find a single postive result , whether socially, environmentally, or economically illiegal immigration benefits American society. NOW ALL THESE ARGUEMENTS ASSUME THAT AMERICANS ARE EVEN INTERESTED IN HAVING A NATIONAL CULTURE, A NATION, OR AS i SAID ,JUST AN ECONOMIC ZONE, WHERE SOICAL ISSUES ARE IRRELEVANT.

  15. Governor Ritter is selling out America. A recall must start immediately and people should go to the State House and spit on his face while the recall gets on its way.
This traitors is just one of the other loose millions out there and the soon he is de-throned , the better. From past events, it’s clear that if we want to save this republic it will be up to the people on the local level. Don’t except much help from the federal Government or from the upcoming Presidents: McCain,Obama, the Osama or ” Madame Clinton”.

    THE UNITED STATES CONGRESS
    THE UNITED STATES SUPREME COURT
    ALL THE FEDERAL COURTS

  16. The SAVE Act on a national level sounds good, except we have in Colorado’s bill the requirement already and its not being enforced. But I will check with our reps.

sorry to break this to you Bobby but the free market is what this country is built on. “Social issues”, regulations are already the problem.
Examples: No refineries built in this country for over 25 years and now we have $3 gas. No oil being drilled for anywhere, ANWAR, Pacific, Gulf, and we have as much oil in Colorado as Saudi Arabia. The Natives in ANWAR are for drilling, they want jobs. In an interview with PBS Gwen Ifel the ANWAR tribal Rep. was attacked by Gwen and an environmentalist trying the caribou argument and his answer was the caribou change grazing habits and merged with another heard and grew 3 times the size they ever saw before.

Governor Davis was recalled and we thought change was going to help. Then the liberal came out of Arnold Schwarzenegger.

  17. It is high time that Governor Ritter is impeached!

Not only is he harassing Cory Voorhis who is an American hero, Governor Ritter is ignoring the law all the while aiding and abetting illegal alien criminals, literally.

The drug dealers that he gave Ag-Trespass to, should have been in prison. How many innocent lives did they destroy? Most of this is to impress illegal aliens for their vote.

We have a two-tier justice system. U.S. citizens are held to a higher standard than people who come to our country for the “freebies” available to them ie., food stamps, housing, healthcare and education (both elementary and college).

Wake up Colorado! It’s high time time to replace the traitors in the Colorado congress, Governor Ritter and restore law and order to our state!!!

  18. Your right Mr. Voorhis is an American hero.

An example of Ag-trespassing is heroin dealer Walter Ramos who pleaded guilty to the lessor charge of “agricultural trespass” allowing him to remain in the US. Ramos was rearrested in California for “sexual contact with a minor.”

I do believe the pro-illegal-immigration is being pushed for votes and not the so called “evil corporations”. If SAVE was used employers would have a way of knowing when documents are forgeries!

Yes it is a two tiered justice system and our money is being used for it.

  19. So who is starting the petition to RECALL or IMPEACH our great leader, Gov. Rotter? I just want to know so I can sign on the first line

  20. Stay tuned, you’ll know the minute I know.

  21. You can also try to contact Judicial Watch to see if they can help you to FORCE the Governor of Colorado to enforce the laws—-or use threats of recall and/or lawsuit!!!!

    http://www.judicialwatch.org

  22. Typical. Another lying scum Gov. offival who refuses to uphold the law because its politically expedient to ignore it.
Votes from the open borders lobby are of greater concern that the law or the desires of lawful constituents.
Some one should arrest this dirtbag, a citizens arrest, and charge him with violation of federal laws against aiding and abetting.

  23. It would fun to watch him be arrested, but he would only hide behind the plea deals the Judges approved.

After checking, no petitions found yet. looking into the process.

  24. Governor Ritter fails Coloradans at every level when he refuses to honor his oath of office. He represents the laws that govern our state. He represents our highest honor. With his refusal to enforce our laws, he degrades his office to that of a third world tyrant. He stands in violation of USC 8, 1324, 2754, 275, 276, 277. It is against federal law to aid, abet, encourage, assist or in any way help an illegal alien to remain in our country no matter what one’s personal opinion. FW

  25. I agree with his miserable failures and I am looking into the proper action to take. Should it be through the courts, I have little faith there. Maybe a Recall. Waiting for the congressman to reply. He may say the National SAVE Act, that would require electronic citizen checks for employment.

Stay tunned to the same bat channel.

  26. I wonder if the population of Colorado understands? An elected official, a “public servant” is refusing to do the will of the people on an issue that is important to the citizenry in dozens of ways. It’s surreal.

  27. I read this article and immediately decided to write the governor , senators, and representatives. Imagine my surprise when I check the Denver Post articles quoted. Guess what, it wasn’t there.

At this point I have to question the accuracy of Mr. Keitels “facts.” Where the facts? When and where did Ritter refuse to enforce the law?

  28. Thank you for wanting to check the facts. I would not post something like this without the backup.

    http://neighbors.denverpost.com/blog.php/2008/02/06/governor-ritters-failure-illegal-aliens-gain/

Please write your letters I have. Also checking into recall or legal action.

  29. Why would Dummycrats want to get rid of the people that elected them? Why do you think they want the Illegals here?
I’ve been telling people for a long time that the whole purpose of opening the borders is to bring in more sheep to control.
The only way the Dummycrats can get in and keep an office is to have people they can control.
How much money do you think is going into the pockets of the Politicicions from Mexico.? I’s all about MONEY! GREED!

  30. True, true, true, and they want more votes. Even if they are illegal as long as they can walk in and vote without ID the “Dummycrats” win.

The U.S. Congress just voted to send about 2 billion in “aid” to Mexico. Mexico is the number two supplier of OIL to the U.S., they don’t need any more of OUR money.

Barack Obama wants to do more. In last weeks debate he said he would help BUILD Mexico’s economy so they wouldn’t have to come here for jobs.

What a nice guy giving away OUR money.

  31. Does this mean all americans should be able to do whatever we want…legal or not. why shouldn’t we…the illegals do and get away with if everyday. Maybe, we should all start saying ” no engles” when being stopped by a cop or when the bank says “when can you make your payment. It’s great to have laws when no one can enforce ‘em.

  32. Don’t worry…20 years from now HISPANICS WILL BE THE MAYORITY and we will rule as we want and however we want!!!!!!!
California, texas and Florida where Hispanic from the beguinning. We are everywhere! BE AFRAID!
How funny that you all son a bitches are so fucking racist…but yet you eat a lot of Mexican food!
All who posted here are fucking racist! GO FUCK YOURSELFS YOU WINING PUSSIES!

  33. Well, Manuel is probably right. Unless the laws are enforced, we will probably be over-run. And by ‘we’ I mean all legal US citizens, legal hispanics included. Gov. Ritter is not doing us any favors, and this non-enforcement of the current immigration laws is a prime example of his failed leadership. We are now beginning to see the effect of the large illegal pool of workers in this state and in the US as a whole. The last blow will be when all of the illegal immigrants get amnesty. Sad. Are you listening Bill?
