Black and white silver gelatin prints that I processed completely.
Macro photography absorbs me into a part of this world mostly overlooked and not easily observed. The subject matter can be at your feet or in a tree, the image may be realistic or abstract. It can be very scientific and documentary while the composition, texture, and lighting can achieve a successful, engaging image.
The possibilities for macro images are many so I focus my attention on subjects that are found in nature. To define nature further to include animal and plant life, excluding flowers. Exploring the different perspectives the subjects are captured in brings about various emotional and optical responses from the viewer. Viewer responses are enhanced by the “larger than life” images that allow us to see nature in ways we normally cannot. Some images will be representative and others abstract. The textures are presented in a manor that evokes a tactile response. I at times capture repeating patterns bringing some energetic feelings to the images.
This body of work is meant to captivate the viewer’s attention and thoughts as to how something so small can be so beautiful or intriguing. I will communicate through personal expression how I view the ephemeral moments of nature and time.
